Renowned artist Carl Schmitt expressed the beauty of truth in painting just as the deepest spiritual writers expressed truths about God and creation by means of words on a page. Selecting forty-three paintings that reveal the broad range of his achievement, this book presents not only Schmitt's artistry, but his ideas about art and life. Scepter is proud to join with the Carl Schmitt Foundation to present a selection of the painter's works for the first time in print, from private and public collections. It arrives just ahead of the 125th anniversary of the author’s birth in Warren, Ohio.

Carl Schmitt (1889–1989) produced hundreds of paintings from landscape and still life to portraits -- of his wife and nine children as well various poets, artists.  He also produced numerous paintings on Marian and assorted other religious themes. Over 500 of his works painted in the U.S. and Europe are scattered throughout museums such as the National Gallery in Washington DC and many private collections worldwide. Schmitt painted with extreme precision to represent art as an expression of the beauty that lies within all creation. He was a man of deep faith, a lifelong Catholic, who saw God in everything he studied and drew.

One reader writes: "
This was a very enjoyable picture book of a great 20th Century American painter, Carl Schmitt. This book will make him better known. There are some autobiographical details at the beginning of the book. Interspersed throughout the book are thoughts and ideas of Carl Schmitt about Art, Life, and God. These lead one to ponder his ideas. The vast majority of the book consists of beautiful paintings by Schmitt. The paintings are very serene and very enjoyable to look at. My favorite was the one of Austin playing the cello. The book closes with 3 essays of Schmitt... This book is a must have coffee table book for your home. I highly recommend it."
